THE PURPOSE BEHIND THE NUMBERS

A little clarity for
everyday money questions.

Free Australian money tools and plain-English explanations to help you understand a result and decide what to check next.

Updated 6 October 2026

Start with a question that matters to you

What lands in my bank account after payday? Will a higher savings rate make much difference? Is an offset worth its extra cost? Howloop turns everyday questions into numbers you can try and explanations you can follow.

  • Take-home pay: estimate weekly, fortnightly or monthly pay, with employer super shown separately.
  • Savings: compare estimated interest, explore compounding and plan a savings goal or emergency buffer.
  • Home loans: explore repayments and offsets, then use the deposit and LVR tool to understand the share you would borrow.
  • Tax preparation: gather employee records and identify questions to check before lodging through myTax.
  • Learn: read practical money guides and use the short questions and answers alongside our tools.

The tools are free and do not require an account. Calculator inputs stay in your browser.

See the difference, not just the headline

Our worked examples keep the assumptions visible. Try what happens when a bonus condition is missed, the balance an offset needs to cover its extra costs, or two salary offers that include super differently. Change the example, compare the result and read what it leaves out.

The person behind Howloop

Howloop is an independent educational project focused on everyday money questions in Australia. Its tools explain savings, pay, household cash flow and home-loan calculations with visible assumptions. Howloop does not claim financial-adviser or tax-agent registration.

The founder is responsible for the website, its explanations and corrections. You can contact the operator at hello@howloop.how.

AI tools assist with drafting, code and mathematical checks. We do not claim independent review by a licensed financial adviser. Source dates and software tests help you inspect the work; they are not professional endorsements. Our editorial policy explains the checks and their limits.

How bank comparisons work

The bank directory starts in alphabetical order. The savings comparison orders supported accounts by estimated gross interest, highest first, using the same inputs. Gross interest means before fees and tax. Neither order certifies eligibility or identifies the best account for you.

We use dated public product data, not access to your bank account. Coverage is incomplete, and conditions or rates may change. Check the provider's current terms. There are no paid rankings or affiliate product links, and we receive no commissions from these links.

Advertising may support Howloop in future. Commercial placements would be labelled and kept separate from calculations and explanations.

Check our work and tell us what is unclear

Guides link to their sources and show their own check dates. The calculation methods explain formulas and assumptions, and updates and corrections record material changes. A page update does not mean every source was checked again that day.

Report a problem through Contact & corrections with the page address and a sample calculation or official source. Please leave out account numbers, tax file numbers and other sensitive details. Our privacy policy explains data handling.

Howloop provides general education. We do not arrange financial products, approve loans or deductions, lodge tax returns or assess what suits your circumstances.

Our earlier everyday guides

Earlier household and device guides remain in a labelled archive. Today's library focuses on Australian money education.
