SAVINGS COMPARISON

Could your savings
earn more?

Use the same balance for every account. Compare the dollars, see the bonus assumptions and check who can open it.

Free to use · No bank login · No paid rankings

Base rates exclude bonus and welcome offers. All estimates are before fees and tax.

Weekly bank data · Last refresh 5 Oct 2026How we compare

The numbers, side by side.

Dated example: 108 supported accounts at build time, sorted by estimated 12-month interest.

Dated example built 6 Oct 2026 using the published snapshot above. $10,000, no extra deposits, base rates only, before fees and tax. Showing 3 accounts; this is part of the market. These rates may have changed. When available, the interactive comparison checks data age again and replaces this example with your results.

Thinking longer term? Open a 5-year rate-change example on an account below. These are what-if calculations, not future rate predictions.

At build time, 9 savings products were excluded for old or incomplete data and 64 for rates that could not be modelled reliably. Numerical order does not establish which account suits you. Check current rates, costs and eligibility with the provider.

SavingsWhat is compound interest?

When interest is added to your savings, that interest can earn interest too. The result depends on your balance, rate, time and deposits; a projection assumes the inputs hold.

SavingsWill I always earn the advertised savings rate?

A bonus rate may depend on deposits, balance changes or other account conditions. A welcome rate lasts only for its stated period, so check the ongoing rate, fees and current provider terms as well.

SavingsAre the bank rates on Howloop live?

The bank explorer uses dated snapshots of public product data. Check each product’s retrieval date and confirm the current offer with the provider; the listing does not assess whether you qualify.

SavingsHow much do I need to save each month?

Enter your target, starting savings and timeframe in the savings-goal calculator. It estimates the end-of-month contribution using a constant rate; try a lower rate too, and include costs that your target needs to cover.

For exampleAt zero interest, a hypothetical $6,000 gap over 12 months needs $500 each month.

SavingsHow do I set an emergency-fund target?

Add up essential monthly expenses and choose how many months you want covered. Use your own bills and income circumstances; the calculator’s example is a starting point for comparison, not a personal recommendation.

How we compare rates, conditions and costs

One set of numbers, for every account

Each estimate starts with the same balance, monthly deposits and period. We add interest monthly and put your extra savings in at the end of each month. Most banks calculate interest daily, so their actual payments will differ. Rates are held unchanged for this example; they are not a forecast.

Accounts are sorted by estimated interest, highest first, before fees and tax. This is a numerical comparison, not a suitability assessment or a recommendation to switch. Enter your actual current rate to see the estimated difference. Leaving it blank does not treat your current rate as zero.

Base rates and conditional offers stay separate

Base-only mode excludes bonus and introductory interest. The conditional scenario assumes you satisfy every published requirement, including any prior-month requirements, from the start of the example. It does not check your age, residency, card purchases, withdrawals, linked accounts or deposit behaviour. Adding money here does not establish that you qualify. Read each account's conditions before using that scenario.

Supported welcome offers last for their published number of whole months, then revert to the base rate. We use balance tiers when the feed can be interpreted without guessing. Offers with overlapping bonuses, unknown welcome periods, incomplete tiers, unclear total rates or limits described only in text are excluded. Published numerical opening and balance limits must cover the whole example; otherwise we omit that account rather than assume it pays interest above a cap.

A longer view, without pretending to predict rates

Supported accounts that stay within their published balance limits can show an optional five-year illustration using their current base-rate structure. We calculate three paths: base rates stay as they are, or each base rate moves one percentage point lower or higher after the first year and then stays at that new level through year five. Rates never fall below zero in this example. Monthly deposits continue, and welcome and bonus rates are left out of this longer view. This is a stress test, not a five-year rate forecast or a promise that an account will stay available. We omit the illustration if a published balance limit would be exceeded. A higher rate today may not remain higher, so check the account regularly.

Fees can change the outcome

These figures are gross interest, not profit after costs. Published fees are available under each account. Monthly charges, linked-account costs and transaction fees are not deducted. Missing fee data does not mean an account is free. For example, an extra $40 in estimated interest would be outweighed by $60 of extra annual fees.

Coverage and freshness

We use the public product feeds in the Australian Government's CDR register. This first comparison covers supported savings products, not every account or every bank. Name and age filters exclude obvious business, child, pension and offset products, but do not establish eligibility. Unsupported products remain available in the bank directory.

Only successful bank snapshots retrieved within seven days are compared. Failed, partial, undated and older snapshots are excluded. The weekly refresh may be delayed; each account shows its actual retrieval date. Always check the provider's current terms.

No bank pays for a position in these results. Howloop does not receive a commission from these comparison links. Your inputs stay in this browser; no bank login or account connection is needed.
